Catalyzes the conversion of hemimercaptal, formed from methylglyoxal and glutathione, to S-lactoylglutathione (By similarity). Involved in the regulation of TNF-induced transcriptional activity of NF-kappa-B (By similarity). Required for normal osteoclastogenesis (By similarity).
